Privacy Policy

1Who we are

Return Gift is an app and an organisation for the planet, made by MindNdata AInnovations Pvt. Ltd. in India ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use the Return Gift app and returngift.org, why, who helps us run it, and what you can do about it. We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025. We are the Data Fiduciary for your data.

2Who can use Return Gift

You need to be 18 or older to make your own account. A parent or guardian can add a child as a family profile that they manage; by doing so they give consent for that child's data to be used as this policy describes, and they stay responsible for what is posted on the child's behalf. We do not show advertising, and we do not track children or build profiles of them for advertising.

3What we collect, and why

  • Your email, and your Google or Apple sign-in. To make your account and sign you in. With Google or Apple we receive your name, email and an account ID. We do not receive your password. If you sign in with an email code, we send the code to your email.
  • Your Green ID, name, profile photo and short bio. To show your profile to other people. These are public.
  • Your birthday. Asked for every account and every family profile. It stays private: nobody else sees it. We use it to check age and to wish you on your birthday.
  • Posts: photos, videos and captions. What you choose to share. Posts are public on Return Gift. Before a post goes up, our checker Jev looks at it (see "How checking works" below). We keep a fingerprint (a short hash) of each photo so the same photo cannot be posted again as a new act.
  • Live streams. When you go live, your camera and microphone are streamed to the people watching, and the live is recorded on your phone and uploaded as a post when it ends. While you are live, a still frame is checked by Jev every few seconds. You choose when to start and end a live; the app asks for camera and microphone permission first.
  • Campaign location. When you start a campaign, you can set where it takes place. That place is shown on the campaign so people can join. We do not track your phone's location.
  • Green Score and Green Report. Your score and report are worked out from what you do on Return Gift: posts, campaigns you start or join, news you read and share, and pledges. Your score is shown on your profile.
  • Pledges. When you pledge, we record the amount and your consent. No money is taken today; money moves only once the organisation is ready and you confirm again.
  • Follows, blocks, likes, reposts, shares, views, campaign joins and reports. To run the social features and to keep people safe.
  • Push notification tokens. A token from Apple or Google that lets us send you notifications, such as a post going up or a family member's birthday. You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
  • Support messages. What you write to us, so we can answer.
  • Basic technical data. Request counts per account to stop abuse, and error logs kept by our hosting providers.

We do not sell your data. We do not show advertising. We do not use your data to train AI models, and our AI providers are used under terms that do not let them train on it.

4How checking works (Jev and Luna)

Jev is the automatic checker. It looks at each photo, video and caption before a post goes up, and at frames during a live, to keep out content that harms people or has nothing to do with the planet. If Jev refuses a post, you are told why in plain words. If a live breaks the rules badly, it ends and is hidden.

Luna writes Green News from public news sources and reviews posts that people report. If Luna hides a post, the person who posted it is told why. Jev and Luna use AI models from OpenAI, reached directly or through the Vercel AI Gateway. Only the post or frame being checked, and its caption, is sent; never your email or birthday.

5Legal basis and consent

We use your data on the basis of your consent, which you give when you make an account and agree to this policy, and for the uses the law allows without consent, such as answering a legal order. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account. Withdrawing does not affect what was done before.

6Who processes your data for us

These companies run parts of Return Gift for us, only on our instructions:

  • Supabase: our database, sign-in and server functions, hosted in Mumbai, India.
  • Cloudflare: R2 stores photos and videos; Realtime carries live streams to viewers.
  • OpenAI and the Vercel AI Gateway: the AI models behind Jev and Luna.
  • Resend: sends sign-in codes and emails about your posts.
  • Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google): deliver notifications.
  • Google and Apple: sign-in, if you choose them.
  • Vercel: hosts returngift.org.

7Data outside India

Your account data lives in Mumbai. Some processors above work from other countries, such as the United States, so photos, videos, frames and captions can be processed there. We only use processors in countries the Government of India has not restricted.

8How long we keep data, and deleting your account

We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete your account in the app, in Settings, Delete account. That removes your profile, posts, photos, videos, live recordings, scores, pledges, follows, push tokens and family links, and the media files are removed from storage. Profiles you manage are removed with your account. Some records may stay for a short time in backups, and we keep what the law requires us to keep, such as records needed for a legal claim, for no longer than needed.

9Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct or complete it, and to erase it. You can name someone to act for you if you die or cannot act. You can raise a grievance with us. Most of your data you can see and change yourself in the app; for anything else, write to us.

10Grievances and contact person

If you have a question or a complaint about how we handle your data, contact the Return Gift Privacy Contact at MindNdata first.

Email support@returngift.org. You can also write to us from Settings, Contact support, in the app.

We will answer and work to resolve a grievance within 90 days. If you are not satisfied, you can then go to the Data Protection Board of India.

11Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app before a change that matters takes effect.
